FINE ART EMBROIDERY WORKSHOPS WITH RICHARD SAJA

All skill levels welcome, ages 12 and up please.

Join fine art embroiderer Richard Saja for an exclusive, hands-on workshop exploring his process of creating “embellished toile.” Richard embroiders over toile de Jouy, a traditional textile form of densely printed, typically monochrome landscape vignettes. “The act of selectively embellishing small areas of [toile] automatically inverts its historical usage: suddenly the anonymity of the print is broken and it evolves through its subversion…With an economy of means, a whole new context is created.” Workshop participants will be given a section of toile de Jouy plus all other necessary materials, and embellish it with guidance from Richard.

HSFF will host two workshops in November, scheduled for the 4th and the 9th. Each workshop is limited to a maximum of ten participants, and advance registration is highly recommended.
